If you read the news here in Maine, you’ve probably seen headlines about Central Maine Power’s new billing system. Customers throughout central and southern Maine are seeing their electricity bills skyrocket, and it could be due to persistent issues with the new billing system.
As a Maine homeowner and CMP customer, you have the right to know how your utilities are billed — and to seek solutions which reduce your reliance on your local utility when necessary.
CMP’s Billing System under Investigation
According to the Bangor Daily News, the Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) announced back in March that it would launch a formal investigation of CMP’s new billing and metering systems following customer complaints about poor service and high utility bills. Customers throughout Maine have seen their bills more than double or triple since the new system was set in place back in October. The PUC investigation, which is expected to be complete by December 31, will ultimately determine whether metering accuracy or metering communication has been an issue leading to skyrocketing bills.
Reduce Your Reliance on CMP with Solar
